What: The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) in collaboration with the Renown Health Foundation, will host an Artist in Residence Show & Reception. Artist in Residence is an elective available to select fourth-year medical students who work in artistic disciplines including visual, literary, musical, performing and video. Students develop skills of observation, communication, analysis, empathy and self-reflection – all of which are essential for humane medical care. The Artist in Residence Show and Reception is part of UNR Med graduation week events.
 
Who:  Artist in Residence students, UNR Med and Renown Health faculty will attend. The event is open to the public.
 
When: Thursday, May 17, 2018, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
 
Photo/Video/Interview Opportunities: UNR Med Artist in Residence students Riki Aquino and Krystal Turgiss will present their artwork and will be available for interviews. A rundown of the Artist in Residence Reception follows:
 
  • 3:30 p.m. Meet and greet with Artist in Residence students, Riki Aquino and Krystal Turgiss. Light refreshments will be served.
  • 4 p.m. Presentation of students and their artwork, including Q&A.
  • 5 p.m. Program closes.
 
Where:  Renown Regional Medical Center, Tahoe Tower Lobby, ground floor. 1155 Mill St. Reno.
 
Why:  The Artist in Residence Show & Reception celebrates the completion of the student’s final project which is a culmination of an artistic representation demonstrating the valuable roles the arts can play in enhancing the healing process. The students and their art projects advocate for the integration of the arts into the environment and delivery of care within healthcare facilities to patients and/or providers.
