Renown Regional Medical Center has been honored once again by the American Heart Association for high quality heart and stroke care. Renown’s focus on quality and applying the most up-to-date, evidenced-based treatment guidelines improves patient outcomes, getting people home sooner and back to doing what they love.

In stroke care, Renown Regional was awarded The Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll award. This recognizes hospitals that provide the best treatment based on national guidelines and administer lifesaving drugs to stroke patients within 60 minutes of arrival.

Quick medical attention is vital when it comes to stroke because time is brain. Eighty-five percent of strokes in the United States are ischemic strokes, which are strokes caused by a clot in the brain. The only FDA-approved treatment for ischemic strokes is a medication that dissolves the clot and improves blood flow to the part of the brain being deprived of blood flow. This must be administered within three hours.

In heart care, Renown Regional was awarded The Get with the Guidelines – Heart Failure Gold Achievement for continually treating heart patients using the highest standards of care as well as AHA’s Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving honor for treating heart attacks.

Congestive heart failure affects nearly five million Americans and can be debilitating, taking a toll on someone’s quality of life. This is why commitment to quality, evidence-based treatment is a focus at Renown, which is reinforced by this recognition from the American Heart Association.
Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health offers more than 20 board-certified heart specialists and eight nurse practitioners with experience in a variety of specialties. The Institute has led the region’s heart and vascular care for more than 30 years, performing the first open-heart surgery, angioplasty, and stent and valve replacements. It is home to two accredited, state-of-the-art Chest Pain Centers, as well as the first accredited Heart Failure Center in northern Nevada and the only intensive cardiac rehab program in the region.
